Spar Lake Campground is located on the Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana at an elevation of 3,300 feet. This little campground is nestled among tall fir trees and is adjacent to popular Spar Lake. It offers solitude and great views of the lake, and the surrounding area offers flora and fauna viewing opportunities. Idaho is located approximately 2 air miles to the west, and the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness is 7 air miles east. Nice views of the surrounding area, boat ramp for small boats, fishing access.
Fish species include Mackinaw, silver salmon, and eastern brook trout. Three miles south of the campground are Little Spar Lake Trail 143 and Spar Peak Trail 324. The campground has 8 campsites, and restrooms are provided.
Scenic trails are available for hiking, as well as a boat ramp with trailer parking located along the launch area road. Boating and swimming can also be enjoyed at Spar Lake. Pets are welcome, but they must be kept on leashes. The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 24 feet. Please limit your stay to 14 days.
Little Spar Lake Trail is one of the most scenic hikes in the Cabinets. The trail follows little spar creek and crosses over it. Very steep terrain follows the creek most of the way until you come to the lake. This hike is considered to be on the moderate side and is an 8 mile adventure both ways. These lakes have incredible fishing opportunities. Definitely don't want to leave your fishing poles at home when visiting these lakes.
